Notion vs Trainual as an onboarding tool

I’m obsessed with Notion. It’s the minimalist workspace of my dreams with impressive functionality. I use it for creating workbook templates and keeping my life organized. That said, I believe Trainual is the best onboarding tool on the market. It’s what I always recommend to clients looking to scale their businesses. You can use Notion to onboard, but how does it stack up against an onboarding powerhouse like Trainual? Let’s find out.

Can you use Notion as an onboarding tool?

Yes. You can use Notion as an onboarding tool for an organization of any size. You can easily choose an onboarding template or create your own in your Notion workspace. Within the workspace, you’ll have the option to embed or link to necessary HR documents and training materials. Notion’s to-do’s and task boards are perfect for moving a new hire through the onboarding process. And embedding decks or slides is an excellent option for training within Notion.

If you want to add personality to your onboarding space, Notion is easily customizable. You can easily add brand logos and other materials to make it feel like an extension of the company.

Is Notion easy to set up as an onboarding tool?

Yes, it is easy to set up an onboarding space within Notion. Most people orient themselves to the Notion workspace within just a few minutes. Things like adding task boards and embedding documents are super simple. And, if you use one of the free templates available, setting up the onboarding page takes moments, not hours.

How much does Notion cost?

Notion has a free option for individuals and five guests, but using it as an onboarding tool means springing for the Team option. It includes unlimited team members, sharing permissions, and admin tools. Notion’s Team option costs $8/user per month.

Is Trainual or Notion a better onboarding tool?

Deciding between Trainual or Notion depends on what you or your company needs from an onboarding tool. If you already have most of your onboarding training materials and documents handy and are looking for more of an interactive repository, then Notion is correct for you. If you’re looking to invest in a robust program that will ensure a consistent standard of training for each new hire, then Trainual is the right tool for you.

Like Notion, Trainual is easy to set up from the ground up and offers a massive wheelhouse of templates, documents, and other training materials. It also has a built-in admin system that tracks users' progress and holds them accountable by integrating quizzes.

Is Notion or Trainual more expensive?

It depends. Trainual’s smallest package is $49/month for five users, and the cost picks up if you want to add more users. The more robust package, Build, costs $99/month and includes ten seats. On average, Trainual charges $2/user per month more than Notion.
